Aloaha PDF Suite NT4 support (NOT SUPPORTED ANYMORE)
We have been quite surprised about the huge demand for NT4 support in our
Aloaha PDF Suite.
Due to some limitations of NT4 the setup is not as straight forward as on newer Operating Systems such as Windows XP, 2000 and 2003.
In newer operating systems standard packages such as WMI, WSH, ADO and CDONTS are included by default. On NT4 you need to make sure yourself that these packages are installed. On NT4 Server it is suggested to install the NT4 option pack from
http://www.microsoft.com/ntserver/nts/downloads/recommended/
NT4OptPk/default.asp
The installation itself is quite straight forward but you need to prepare the printers to be monitored manual. As a requirement for a printer to be monitored it needs to be paused and the Data type of the spool file needs to be EMF.
To change the Data type of the printer to be monitored you need to open the printer settings. In advanced settings you click on print processor and choose one of the EMF Data types.
Once the Printe has been configured you need to call the tool monitor.exe from the Aloaha installation directory. There you choose the printer and with the right mouse button you choose PDF Prepare.
Now the Printer hast been prepared to be monitored by Aloaha and it is suggested to restart the spooling service.
That can be done in the service control manager or with net stop spooler/net start spooler.
Windows NT4 Printer driver have another huge limitation. Since they print with a fixed DPI Resolution Microsoft does not offer an API to query the print resolution. As a result the generated PDF File might look not as expected. You need to set the fixed print resolution manual in the registry.
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Aloaha\pdf\printerdpi
Suggested values are one of the following list:
75, 150, 300, 600, 1200, 2400, 4800, etc.
