Which Vista Versions are supported by the Aloaha FAX Server?

Are there any requirements for the FAX Suite?

Yes, you need .NET 2.0 installed.

How can I define the Telefon Number?

There are different ways to define the telefon number.

1. Pass it to Aloaha via Display Name (not good in Exchange/Outlook environment)

Just send an email to "number"
Like this Aloaha will find the Number in the Display Name.
For example "0049545145469"

2. Pass it as command in subject or body of email.

Define the number(s) as embedded command [%%: number].
For example send message to fax@aloaha.com or sms@aloaha.com
with subject and/or body [%%: 0049545145469]

Multiple commands per subject or body are allowed.

I defined .doc files as allowed files. But nothing happens.

The Aloaha FAX Service call the assinged application (in your case Winword) to convert the document to fax. Probably the service user of the Aloaha FAX Service never run MS Winword before.

To fix the problem just log in as the Aloaha FAX Service User and start once Winword. Now restart the Aloaha FAX Service.

It is always suggested NOT to run the Aloaha FAX Service as local system!

Do I need to restart the fax server after making changes to the configuration?

No. The fax server will read the necessary changes by itself unless stated otherwise

You do not support my native language. What can I do?

You can help us translate the software to your native language by creating a copy of all the files in the 'data' folder that begin with 'res.eng'.
Edit the files using a Unicode aware text editor (including notepad) and translate all the strings after the '=' sign to your native language.

To test your files, rename all the new files by changing the .eng. part to your 3 letter language (e.g. German = 'ger') and copy the files to the 'data' folder.
Then open the config.ini file and change the Language entry in the [Globals] section to the 3 letter language created. (e.g. German = 'ger')

When ready send us the files for us to confirm and include in the final build.

How can I switch off the SMS auto-routing option?

From the 'data' folder, open 'smsroutingtemplates.ini' in notepad and switch off the auto-routing template by changing the Enabled field from '1' to '0'.

Why can I only send one document for conversion when sending a fax?

This is a limitation from Microsoft Fax service. It accepts only one document for conversion.

My PDF reader will not read your PDF files.

The PDF files created by the fax server are standard embedded image PDF files. Some readers might not read them due to the rare nature of these kinds of PDF files. Make sure that your reader can read embedded CCITT Group 4 Fax images embedded in PDF files.

We have tested Acrobat Reader 7 and 8.

What is needed to get started?

Before installing Aloaha Fax Suite you need the following:
1. A machine installed with Windows XP, Vista or 2003 server Operating Systems.
2. Microsoft .NET 2.0 installed.
3. Mirosoft Fax Service installed and configured. This can be found within the Operating System's CD.

After installation you need to configure Aloaha Fax Suite as follows:
1. Add registered users.
2. Add users into the unrouted users list for both FAX and SMS.
3. Set up an SMTP server for email notifications and reports.
4. For sending FAX and/or SMS messages, configure POP3 server and mailbox for FAX and/or SMS.
5. Configure any other options as needed.

Close configuration and start the Aloaha Fax Suite Server service if it is not started.

How can I disable coverpages for all users?

You can disable the coverpages for all users as follows:
1. Open the configuration and go to the 'Coverpages' options under the fax options.
2. Disable the default coverpage by clicking on the 'No Default Coverpage' toolbar button above the coverpages list.
This will remove the default coverpage and any user not assigned to a coverpage will not send a coverpage.
If you want to disable ALL users, you have to unassign any users from ALL coverpages by selecting the properties of each coverpage and removing all assigned users.

How do I configure a user to receive all Faxes and/or SMS messages?

You can configure a person that receives a copy of all Faxes and/or SMS messages as follows:
1. Open the configuration and go to the 'Fax Inbound Routing' option for FAX or 'SMS Inbound Routing' for SMS.
2. Click on the 'Receive All' tab and add users to the list.

These users will receive all faxes and/or SMS messages.

Why can't I add more fax devices?

There is a limitation on the number of fax devices that can be added to Microsoft Fax as follows:
1. On all versions of Windows Vista, Windows XP and in Windows Server 2003 Web Server, the device limit is 1.
2. On Windows Server 2003 Server and Windows 2003 Small Business Server the device limit is 4.
3. On Windows Server 2003 Enterprise Server and Windows Server 2003 Data Center Server there is no device limit.

Is Windows 2000 supported?

No Windows 2000 is not supported. The Microsoft Fax system programming interface of Windows 2000 is different than from Windows XP and other later operating systems.

Can I archive to SQL server?

No the system archives to a folder in INI file format which can easily be read and transferred to an SQL server using a third party application.

What SMS devices are supported?

We recommend Wavecom chipset based GSM modems but the system is able to intelligently adapt to any mobile that supports Text and/or PDU mode.
There will be some models that would need some special initialization string but these will be handled in a case by case basis.

I cannot edit coverpages. When I click the edit button nothing happens.

The coverpage editor is part of the Microsoft Fax Services. One possible situation is that you do not have the Microsoft Fax Service installed correctly or not at all.

How can I forward incoming faxes or SMS messages to specific users?

You can route incoming faxes to specific users as follows:
1. Open the configuration and go to the 'FAX Inbound Routing Rules' options for faxes or the 'SMS Inbound Routing Rules' options for SMS messages.
2. Add rules by clicking on the 'New routing rule' toolbar button.

These rules will be used when a new incoming fax is received. The fax will be forwarded to all users assigned in each condition-satisfied rule.

Which Adobe Reader is suggested to be installed on the FAX Server Machine?

It is suggested to use Adobe Reader Version 6 or 7. The performance of those Readers is much better than Adobe Reader 8

Is it possible to make the Aloaha FAX Service dependent of another Service?

If you are using the Dialogic/Eicon Fax Provider, you may find that the boards will not initialize when the Aloaha Fax Suite service starts up on system start. To solve the problem please add the following registry value of type REG_MULTI_SZ to the registry:
