Aloaha FAX Suite SMTP Server Configuration

One great feature of the Aloaha FAX Suite is its integrated SMTP Server. The advantage of the SMTP Server is that a FAX and SMS Domain can be configured. Emails sent to such configured Domains will be automatically treated as FAX/SMS messages.

For example you can just send an email to 0815@fax and Aloaha will send the FAX to number 0815. The same is valid for the SMS Domain. You send an email to 0815@sms and Aloaha will transmit the email as SMS to 0815.

The default pre-configured domains are @aloahafax.com for FAX and @aloahasms.com for SMS.

Options

The first text box defines the domain name returned to the SMTP client after the SMTP HELO/EHLO command. In most cases 'localhost' will work fine.

By default the SMTP Port is configured as 8025 not to conflict with a possible installed SMTP Server. If no SMTP Server is active on the same machine it is safe to change the port to the SMTP default port 25.

Make sure your local firewall does not block the configured port!

In Domains, the respective domains can be configured. The screenshot above shows the domains @aloahafax.com responsible for FAX and @aloahasms.com responsible for SMS.

Emails which are not addressed to the configured domains are rejected by the server.

Mail forwarding

In case you are not connecting directly to the Aloaha SMTP Server you need to configure a rule in your primary mailserver to relay all FAX/SMS mails to the Aloaha SMTP Server.

In Exchange you would configure a connector to forward all mails @fax, @aloahafax.com, @sms and @aloahasms.com to the Aloaha machine. It is suggested not to use DNS forwarding but forward directly to the Aloaha IP. Make sure to set the IP in Exchange in square brackets. For example relay: [192.168.0.111].

If you use a simple MS IIS Server just created additional remote domains with the smarthost pointing to Aloaha. For example [192.168.0.111]
